Design History: The rear carrier for the smart Fortwo City Coupé, which was presented at the IAA Frankfurt in 1997, surprised the experts with its perfectly shaped extruded aluminium profiles and the early integration of transport accessories into vehicle development. As a result, the connection points planned by us could be incorporated into the rear cross beam. The smart rear carrier is not only used for transporting bicycles, skis and snowboards, it is also often seen with its suitcases or advertising panels firmly attached. The specifications also foresaw transporting a wheelchair.

For smart we created the design study "Fahrendes Büro", special bike designs for the Coupè and Cabriolet as well as a roof rack with accessories and roof boxes for the smart Forfour.
